In fact there are many architects who only use SketchUp for their workflows - so it's definitely possible to do very detailed work inside SketchUp when you know how (and when you combine SketchUp with Layout). As you can see from some of my example designs below you can still create scaled plans, elevations, joinery/cabinetry drawings and all of those types of things in SketchUp - it's an extremely powerful piece of software. Again, once the designs have been created in SketchUp I move these over to Layout so I can create documentation drawings that are to scale. On these drawings I can then add dimensions and other details for the builder/contractor/cabinet maker to work from.

Antique metal signs in neutral colors also enhance the farmhouse style of any room. Real or fake taxidermy mounts, such as deer antlers, are a popular wall hanging in modern farmhouse rooms. Modern farmhouse design in the dining room lifts these spaces from their formal past and transforms them into contemporary comfort. As in other farmhouse-style rooms, keep your dining room color palette neutral.
Hand-Stitched Farmhouse Style
Stopping by a thrift store or two also works in this case, though pieces you already own may be more personal. The flooring of a dining room plays a crucial role in setting the tone for the space, and opting for wood or stone floors can add warmth, texture, and character that epitomize the farmhouse aesthetic. Look for vintage furniture, such as a farmhouse table, sideboard, or hutch, that showcases craftsmanship and patina. While vintage sellers tend to prioritize wood finishes, be sure to mix in other materials such as iron, metal, brick, and stone for a more modern vibe. Modern farmhouse style is a fusion of farmhouse warmth and contemporary flair, offering the best of both worlds in comfort and sophistication.

Whether you are a die-hard loyalist or you're brand-new to the farmhouse aesthetic, it's easy to fall in love with a traditional apron-front sink. Contemporary options now feature modern materials like stainless steel or soapstone in addition to the classic white porcelain. While raw wood isn't necessarily groundbreaking when it comes to farmhouse design, including broad tonal shifts in the material is something new to consider.

But how do you add the perfect amount of farmhouse style to an otherwise minimalist space? While pastel colors often appear in modern farmhouse style, bright colors are generally less common. Green is a common accent color, often represented by potted green plants and succulents displayed in wood or wicker baskets. Dried cattails, grasses, wheat, or eucalyptus add splashes of color and set inside glass jars or ceramic crocks.
Though quite different on the surface, these two styles meld together surprisingly well. Adding a leather sofa, armchair, or another piece of furniture to your living room can completely transform the space. To really bring out the rustic feel, choose warm brown shades over cream or black. If you want to get really creative with leather in your modern farmhouse living room, look for accent pillows made of black-and-white cowhide. To incorporate a sectional into your modern farmhouse decor, focus on the overall shape and fabric.
Add Antiques
Leave an exposed brick wall as-is for an industrial farmhouse feeling, or whitewashed for a more countrified design style. Farmhouse home decor can include larger swaths of color, such as a navy blue accent wall or a pale green distressed sideboard. Mix and match old and new pieces by standing an antique china cabinet beside a new wood and metal dining table. When choosing your dining room furniture, replace two chairs with a long bench. Consider mixing the types of chairs in the room, including stained, painted, and upholstered pieces. As with other uses of fabric in modern farmhouse style, texture is an important thing to highlight.

Weathered materials tell their own story and add a sense of history to your home, creating a warmth and charm. In the modern farmhouse dining room, every detail tells a story and every choice reflects a commitment to comfort, authenticity, and the joy of shared experiences. Whether you're drawn to the cozy, lived-in feel or the eclectic mix of textures and patterns, there's a scheme to suit every taste and preference. The most successful ones have the perfect balance between old and new, embrace natural materials, and pieces that tell a story. Depending on your taste, a transitional design dining room can lean more traditional or contemporary. So long as you look to blend old and new, and always keep things feeling cozy.
But the decor still feels timeless, thanks to bright white walls and neutral-toned furnishings that complement the rustic table—where Carter treats guests to his famous chicken potpie. While this home in Provincetown, Massachusetts, technically didn’t start out life as a farmhouse (it was a former fishing shack), designer David Cafiero added plenty of cozy touches. We especially adore the duck-egg painted ceiling and the gorgeous floral wallpaper in this bathroom. In that spirit, we’ve culled our archive for some of the most elegant examples of modern farmhouse decor.
Textured fabrics like suede, leather, and canvas are always a great choice. There’s no better way to add clean lines to your living room idea than with contrasting colors. Sleek cabinets by Tharp Custom Cabinetry and a pair of Luna Bella lanterns provide more elegant notes in the space. Architect Stephen Potters designed floor-to-ceiling modern farmhouse-style windows and designer Brittany Bromley coated the frames in Farrow & Ball’s Railings to showcase both sunny and snowy days.
Pretty soon, shiplap was being used everywhere you looked, from farmhouse kitchens to bedrooms and living rooms. If shiplap isn't for you but you love other elements of the farmhouse look, the modern farmhouse style might suit you perfectly. You can make farmhouse style work in a more modern, minimalist home or a traditional or period home. While traditional farmhouse style tends to feature warmer tones and darker woods, modern farmhouse interiors typically feature white walls and lighter wood tones for a bright and current feel. Today many people combine farmhouse with other trends to create hybrid styles such as coastal farmhouse, industrial farmhouse, boho style meets farmhouse, and more. The color palette helps soften the ceiling's exposed beams, and the sculptural shapes prove that modern art is perfectly at home in a modern farmhouse interior.

Here's where you can celebrate Cinco De Mayo in Calgary this year
He says the idea for Socality House was born out of the community group Socality, which started in Calgary in 2014. Its goal was to connect creatives online and in-person using social media and live events across the world. A Calgary coffee shop that caters to "creators" — like photographers, vloggers and those with a social media presence — has become a meetup spot for virtual workers. By organizing events, serving on committees, or mentoring new members, you can contribute to the community's growth and direction while developing your own leadership skills. Sociality houses embrace diversity and welcome individuals from all backgrounds.
The practical significance of inclusion in sociality houses cannot be overstated. By embracing diversity, these spaces foster a sense of belonging and community, which in turn promotes social cohesion and well-being. Furthermore, inclusive sociality houses serve as models for broader society, demonstrating the power of diversity and the importance of creating welcoming and equitable spaces for all.
The owner, Scott Bakken, says it's more than a cafe and it's designed to be a gathering place for people to connect in person. Stay tuned for updates and announcements regarding this closure and all future closed restaurants, bars, and cafes in YYC. However, it was the physical space of Socality House that brought everything into motion. "Either it's networking connection into opportunities, artistry, photography, or just building your own brand and being successful as a young entrepreneur and not feeling so alone," he said. "We're not just a coffee shop. We're using coffee as a leader to get people in because we know people love conversation around good coffee," he said.
"When I started hanging out there, I started meeting a lot of people that I had just seen online and had known about for even a couple of years." Since opening, it's been used for portrait sessions, recording jam sessions and as a shop space for bloggers to sell clothes. "You can do anything as long as they're not disrupting people during business hours." "Instagram was the app that really brought discovery of people in other markets. And I feel like we were early adopters to find that," Bakken said.

Regent Takes Delivery of the Highly Anticipated Seven Seas Grandeur™ - A Heritage of Perfection.
The Culinary Arts Kitchen — Regent’s cooking school at sea — is a gorgeous space where guests can learn how to make dishes inspired by the places they’re sailing to — without having to do any of the prep work or clean up. I took a class and learned how to make pasta al limone and crepes; I loved the hands-on instruction and picked up a few helpful tips to use when I cook at home. Regent Seven Seas Cruises is the world's only cruise line that includes unlimited shore excursions in every port. This doesn't just make this luxury line good value for money, it also means Regent is ideal for genuine travellers who are citizens of the world and seek to engage more deeply with the destinations they visit, rather than simply ticking sights and attractions off a list.
With guests numbering in the hundreds instead of the thousands, you won't have to wait in any long lines or get lost in the crowd aboard a Regent cruise. A big draw to Regent is the mostly inclusive offerings, including free and unlimited shore excursions, round-trip flights, unlimited internet, prepaid gratuities, ground transfers and other amenities. La Veranda is the ship’s main buffet restaurant for breakfast and lunch; during our sailing, we enjoyed sushi, lobster, paella, salads, and a very delicious cronut during casual meals here. In the evening, La Veranda becomes Sette Mari at La Veranda, a table-service restaurant serving Italian food.
Examples of these include ensuring ships in the fleet are fitted with Advanced Wastewater Purification systems, tying greenhouse gas reduction to executive pay incentives and optimising itineraries to reduce emissions. The latter initiative resulted in a reduction of thousands of metric tonnes of carbon dioxide in the past year alone. And you'll find no plastic water bottles onboard thanks to the line's Vero Water initiative that sees suites equipped with reusable water bottles. If you can bring yourself to get off your beautiful ship, you'll be spoiled for choice with an impressive array of immersive tours and experiences. With port calls in more than 550 destinations, many of them with late departures or extended overnight stays, it’s no surprise Regent Seven Seas Cruises won Best for Destinations in the Luxury Category of the Cruise Critic UK Editors' Picks Awards 2023. During the summer months and holiday seasons, Club Mariner is offered to keep young cruisers engaged and entertained.
The line has three older ships and just had two larger vessels ordered by parent company Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, but they are not due until 2026 and 2029. Of course, if you’d rather take your meals in your beautiful suite, you can also enjoy included room service 24 hours a day. Whether you stay overnight or are in port for the day, your toughest decision will probably be choosing which of the complimentary (and unlimited) shore excursions you would like to do first. Highlights of the overnight stay programme include destinations such as Bangkok, Monte Carlo and Istanbul. Safaga, a popular jumping-off point for tours exploring the many wonders of Luxor in Egypt, is another highlight of Regent Seven Seas' extended stay programme.

Chartreuse celebrates classic French cooking and glamour with a dining room inspired by the Parisian metro’s art nouveau stations and Coco Chanel’s designs. The entrance to Pacific Rim, a pan-Asian specialty restaurant serving sushi, dim sum, and more, is marked by an impressive bonsai cherry tree sculpture by Savoy Studios. With some impressive deals to help you cruise more often, there's never been a better time to set sail with Regent Seven Seas Cruises. For example, the line's latest 'Upgrade Your Horizon' promotion includes up to a double category suite upgrade and 7.5% reduced deposits on hundreds of cruises. Plus, you can save up to 50 per cent on more than 80 destination-immersive sailings around the globe. Regent Seven Seas Cruises is always on the lookout for ways to cruise responsibly, with five pillars guiding the line's Sail & Sustain strategy.
The Grandeur hosts twice-daily classes on sea days and a single late-day class when ships are in port. Stephano also leads culinary safaris ashore, such as a visit to a spice market in Belize made earlier this year. While not strictly an adults-only cruise line, Regent cruises are best for adults traveling without small children. The Club Mariner children’s program (for ages 5-17) is available on select sailings, but with many adult-focused spaces and entertainment, this ship is better suited for travelers without little ones.
Perhaps the most important part of a luxury cruise is your personal space, and Regent's all-suite accommodations guarantee comfort. Suites range from a modest 300 square feet to an over-the-top 4,400 square feet, with elegant decor, marble-accented bathrooms, spacious closets and a separate sitting area in each suite. You can choose from a European king-sized bed or twin bed accommodations, and in every bathroom you'll find L'Occitane soaps and lotions, plush bathrobes and slippers, and a hair dryer.
